The man behind the dream… Kermit Okamura was born in 1980 in Hawaii and lived there until he was 10 years old before moving to New Mexico with his mom and sister.
Kermit loved sports and as a child played mainly soccer and baseball, but as he grew older he fell more in love football. While in high school, he lettered in both football and track. Kermit was part of 2 New Mexico state 4A state championship teams from Mayfield High School. He was also named All-State his Junior and Senior seasons and was the runner up for NM Athlete of the year in 1998.
Kermit joined the football team his freshman year at New Mexico State University as a walk on and later earned a full scholarship his sophomore season. He lettered for 3 years and eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2003.
After working a few jobs in New Mexico, Kermit accepted an engineering position at Yuma Proving Ground and relocated in May 2004. Thirteen years later, his work ethic and determination are still a driving force as he leads the Munitions and Weapons Division there.
Kermit quickly jumped all in to CrossFit after being introduced to it in May of 2012. He loves working with and helping people. Coaching is such a natural fit for him because he consistently pushes others to do their best and overcome obstacles.
Kermit is a passionate individual and his love for his wife Lynsey of 10 ½ years and their three boys is very obvious along with his enjoyment for his work and the community surrounding Nā Koa Fitness. Kermit loves 80s pop music, 90s hip hop and has some pretty sweet dance moves.
